The goal of this site is to equip you with the necessary tools to succeed at selling pre-arrangements (both cemetery/funeral). I’ve been selling pre-arrangements for plus 15 years. In that time I've helped start a cemetery, sold one million plus in Preneed Sales a year for years, led a Preneed Sales team of 50, consult in the deathcare industry, and have done everything you'll read on this website.
No matter where you are in your career,
beginner, intermediate, or pro, I’ve been there.
I know what it’s like to starve and wonder where the next sale’s going to come from. I failed when I first started in this business. It wasn't easy because there's not a lot of people who can say they've succeeded in preneed sales. When I first started I figured I’d overcome any deficiency in my sales ability by out-working everyone. I soon learned working harder doesn’t necessarily get the results you want.
This industry’s been stuck in a time-warp for decades.
It seems that no one wants to acknowledge there may be a better way.
They'd still be using horse & buggy to move the casket to the graveyard if they could.
Well, after years of testing and spending thousands of dollars I have found a way to prospect that totally eliminates cold-calling & door-knocking. I haven’t done cold calling in more than 10 years and the only time I've been active in door-knocking (now 4 plus years ago) is because the last large company I worked for believed and swore by it. Yes, under certain circumstances it might be effective but only if you do your homework and even than I don't recommend it more because of the large amount of time you need to invest in that activity.
The key to really succeeding in this business is to develop a well thought out plan to prospect using every advantage available to you. I refer to this new preneed sales approach to prospecting as warm & fuzzy. It begins with a great "presentation" and continues by collecting referrals every step of the way.

You'll note that this site's dedicated to "blogging" or a "journal" of my experiences in the Preneed Sales side of things. I've never been a funeral director only a first generation preneed seller. I don't worry about the baggage those 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation folks in the deathcare industry have. All of us carry biases especially if we were born into that industry. Every industry has what I call "industry-speak" and "jargon" that most of us don't understand.
As posts are made to the site I'll recommend different products / services to help you in your preneed sales journey. You're an adult. If you take or don't take my advice I'm fine with it. Also, I'm not here to debate what strategies might of might not work for you.
I'm here to share my journey ... what's worked and what hasn't ... my experiences working
with over 100 new-bie preneed sellers ... I've worked with enough new
people to have a pretty good idea of how preneed sellers
think and operate ... remember, I've been there.
Further, you might hear me pick on the "so-called" gurus in the business. I know most of them. Very few could sell a pre-arrangement if their life depended on it. I know quite a few who dole out advice ... any time someone gives you advice on selling pre-arrangements make sure they've done it and were successful doing it.
Wanna-bes are full of it when it comes to Preneed Sales.
Until you find someone like me who's done it
don't waste your time with pretenders.
Finally, you can make Six Figures ($100,000) plus in Preneed Sales ... I know plenty who do and I've coached plenty more who make multiple six figures selling. If I can do it and they can do it, you can do it. So, here's my prescription for your success.
- You need a great Presentation
- Always be getting referrals
- Learn quickly
And don't get cheap. There's almost no info out there on how to sell preneed and be successful at it. Invest in YOU. No one can take your knowledge or experience. No one. This means every investment in YOU will garner a great return for yourself both now and later.
